I have two drip oilers , cheap from EBAY , they are functional and from China .

I plan to reverse engineer these oilers and also enlarge X 2 the size .

I don't want to buy the pyrex grade of glass as it is not cheap. My idea is to use glass drink containers and cut or grind them to size . I will mount a pencil air grinder in the lathe tool post . I am not sure of the correct type of grinding wheel to use . Any ideas ?

Diamond.

But if the glasses are cheap I'll be having a play with thermal shock
Just to give you the idea

I have a mate that's a glazier, and they use a diamond wheel to dress the edges of glass for tables etc.
Contact a glass blower to see if they can get or make the tubes for you. I've an article on making/modifying a brass oil dripper, in an edition of MEW if that helps.

OK the diamond wheel.

Stuart, I tried the thermal shock method, but the glass breaks all over the place. I scribed the circumference of the glass , heat up with a candle and then under the cold water . I have seen it done with beer bottles .
