I have recently purchased a metal lathe (very old unknown make/model ).It is all in great condition except for the input spindle clutch assembly had a fair amount of slop in it. (I fabricated a puller and attempted to remove the outer drum but was not success full and didn't try too hard as I didn't want to break anything) any help on removing this clutch drum assembly for repair it is greatly appreciated cheers Brian. Clutch as seen in image 2 seems to work by a key way travelling though the shaft pushing out on the wedge that can be seen therefore expanding the inner ring and locking it to the outer (seems pretty straight forward to me) but how do I remove it ?

Hi Brian,
Welcome to the forum!
That is a quality looking unit.
To help with the ID, do you have a 'full-frontal' photo to share, of the machine?

Hey Andrew :) Thank you for the quick reply :) Here are some photos of the lathe I can place the top of the gearbox/cover back on the lathe if that helps.

Brian,

Welcome to the forum.

For future reference here is a guide for suggested photos for identifying unknown lathes (and other machines). It covers the areas where minor differences in parts like tail stock, aprons, legs etc. can help to identify them.

Instructions for taking a set of "Mug Shots" to identify a lathe or other machine (http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/antique-machinery-and-history/instructions-taking-set-mug-shots-identify-lathe-other-machine-258416/)

It is also worth noting whether fasteners have Whitworth/BSF, UNC/UNF or metric threads. This can give some indication of the country of origin.

Regards,

Frank.

Hey Franco thanks for the guide :)

I also noticed it has Hoffmann Bearings inside the gearbox ( Hoffmann Bearings - All Hoffmann Bearings or Replacement Hoffmann Bearings Available (http://www.hoffmannbearings.co.uk/) )
English Bearings does that make it and english made lathe ?
also do the numbers and letter on the chuck help ?
