World's biggest plane, the Antonov An-225, destined for Perth, takes off from Prague (http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/worlds-biggest-plane-the-antonov-an225-destined-for-perth-takes-off-from-prague-20160512-gou0bt.html)

Lucky Perth residents will get to see the worlds largest aircraft later today.

Current position can be seen here

Back in 2000 or 2001 the first An-124 arrived in Rockhampton carrying helicopters for the Singapore Air Force. A large crowd turned out late on a Sunday night to see the landing.

Glad I am not paying the freight bill.

I guess you calculate the extra freight cost by air against the time taken for sea transport and come up with best business decision.

Unless Porco Rosso's air pirate mates are around its a lot more secure via air.:)

It was a nightmare at the airport people and cars everywhere also the plane was 2 hours late. I wasn't sure which runway it was going to land on so I decided to go to the local National Park with views to the city and watch from there. It was 8 kms for the airport and I got a couple of snaps. You can really see how big it is flying by.

This plane has an interesting history. It is very lucky it is flying today. The breakup of the USSR almost sounded its death knell. It is only sheer luck that it was rebuilt after standing unused for many years. It has found a market in urgent freight deliveries of big equipment that won't fit on any other plane.

When I lived in Port Hedland the predecessor of that flew in a couple of times making urgent deliveries. Because of the cost it sat at the local airport till the next job came up rather than return tobase. They put the fuel used on takeoff in the local paper, it is incredible. It came with it's own forklift.

I Have only just come across this thread, but I remembered this youtube vid of the Antonov departing Canberra. I doubt that any observers of that departure have forgotten it either, enjoy the commentary from the irreverent Ausie Air Traffic Control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZGXwbPfwQs

Certainly made full use of the strip, definitely no STOL aircraft that one. (STOL Short Take Off Landing)
Thanks for the video clip :2tsup:.
