Hi Steve,
Is your press similar to the 181A model listed here?

its the older design so its bigger than the 181A, and a touch smaller than the 182A.

link to the images are the first words in the original post.
happy to take an offer on as I need the space back.

I'm interested, but would be subjected to you packing it securely to a pallet and access to pick up said pallet?

Hi DJ,

probably not my preferred option- depending on how easy it is to sort out pick up..... however It could be bolted down to a pallet and pallets are easy to come by.

Will you take $250 for it if I drive up and get it this weekend?

just got some more info.

The 87A was in the 1927 John Heine catalogue (don't think this one is quite that old though) and were about 2cwt (~ 100kg).

Heh, I dont think the made date maters much when yer talking JH fly press'

To give it a rough date for the interest of 'collectors' of old machines, when did John Heine stop using the term "Makers" ? Likely pre WW2 I'd guess.
I've got three JH products and none have the term 'Maker' on them.

Does anyone have any JH catalogs other than the pdf that was linked to earlier?

My press is in the one listed but I'd like to get a scanned copy for my reference library.

none of the 1924, 1927 or 1930 catalogues use the term Maker in machine/presses pictured.

however the 1917 catalogue seems to picture machines with the term 'Maker' as "J,Heine, Maker, Redfern" in three lines on a plaque/label. or J. Heine, Maker, Sydney. my press could be older than I first thought.

be good to find a more recent 50s-60s etc catalogue.

Why don'tyou send the pics to John Heine and ask them to date it for you - and estimate/conform the operating force?

ok, more analysis for anyone interested - looks like the 87A had a 2 inch hole in the base plate up to 1927, after that it was 3 inch. Mine has three inch hole - so they probably used some old patterns (that included the word "Maker") in the branding - as none of the cataloges post 1917 show the term "maker" on the brandings.

branding on the front of the press in my opinion is more for sake of conveniently showing makers name in the catalogue.

Did JH make a optional stand for the Fly press?

Zsteve
