Sadly the old town of Yarloop burned and along with it some historic treasure.

As has been widely reported, the Yarloop Workshops Museum has been destroyed in a bushfire.

A report can be found in the Bunbury Mail:

I've driven past it a few times and have kept meaning to drop in and have a look but always assumed it would be there and I could drop past anytime.

It just shows you what can happen.

Almost feels like there has been a death in the family. Lived in the town and worked in the region for a few years of my youth, and well remember when the mill and workshops were a hive of activity in their heyday. Saw it contract to a planing and seasoning mill as the forests were logged out and the forest railway system scrapped.
Believe there is some support for a revival of the Steam Workshops as some gear could be salvaged. Shame the buildings are gone, as there will never be enough timber of that class in WA to reproduce them. Mining magnate Andrew Forrest has been down there to lend some support and encouragement, so let's hope somethig positive can come from such a major disaster.
