I have recently bought a 9" Hercus lathe. It's in pretty good condition for it's age. It only has a 3 jaw chuck. I would like to get a 4 jaw independant and a face plate, without paying a fortune. I can get a chinese 4 jaw from Hare Forbes in Bris. but they don't come with a backing plate. They said make one but that is a bit beyond me yet. I think the hercus has a 1.5" thread on the head stock?? Can anyone help me?/
Thanks Raandolf

Hi - you can try a few places

LPR tools (search for their website) VIC

Minitech (they have a website) QLD

Hercus (they have a website) SA

Mick Moyles engineering (they have a website) SYD

You should be able to find them via Google.

Hi Raandolf,
Its an off chance but State High schools of any vintage all had Hercus equipment. There's a good chance that there may be an little used 4 jaw laying around in a Manual arts department somewhere. If you can locate one they are not using, offer them a swap for something they need and will use.
The kids only use 3 jaw chucks in our school lathes.
