I need to get a few lengths of steel chrome plated ..... there will be two lenths apprx 40x15x1800 and then some other small stuff.

Anybody have any idea of the price involved? Any recommendations on a place to get it done (Geelong or Western Melbourne).

Is there any paint that can give a finish close to chrome plating?

Thanks.

Chroming is very bad for you. Stay away from them spray cans is my advice.

Have a look at supercheap autos, some paints give a reasonable approximation of electroplating.

Howdy Sir Stinka,
just look up Electroplaters in the http://www.yellowpages.com.au/images/logo_ypol.gif;jsessionid=28u0ke8lnj0ef.yp2003_22121 (http://www.yellowpages.com.au/siteEntry.do;jsessionid=28u0ke8lnj0ef.yp2003_22121) , and find the most conveniant one to you. Call first, for a quote and to make sure they can fit 1800mm length's in their bath's. If you want to save money, make sure the piece's you are getting plated are fairly well Polished before handing them over (depend's on what finish you want), as the plating does not hide anything! I recently had 2/ 12mm x 1300mm steel rods Satin Chrome plated, and from memory I think it cost about $35. Hope this help's a bit,http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon14.gif

Thanks Matrix .... that is what I was after ..... for that price I will investigate further.

I just hate to call these companies out of the yellow pages without some background information. I find that these sorts of companies are only open Mon-Fri so I can never get in to see them and have little time during the week to call. Most of the time they are not interested in small jobs anyway.

Where did you get yours done.
