Have you tried their website? The blue wire is usually the brake wire that goes all the way back to the brake pin in your trailer plug.

Gees, a big ol' dinosaur. But still better than some.

Black - 12V+ Battery, through a 20A circuit breaker.
White - Battery Earth.
Red - Negative side (Cold side) Stop Light Switch.
Blue - To #5 pin on trailer plug.

To test:

Hook up the Black onto a car battery. (12V+)
Hook up the White wire onto the same battery. (12V-)
Push the 'fore-aft' slide control all the way in (maximum power).
Slide the horizontal slide control all the way to the left (this is the over-ride control)
Red LED light should come on on the front of the unit.
Hook up the Red wire onto the same point the Black wire is. Again, the Red LED light should come on on the front of the unit.
Tip the unit slowly upward at the front. The LED should go from flashing to bright. Lower the unit down and the LED should go back to flashing. Alternatively, holding the unit level with the woodgrain face facing you, scroll the serrated dial under the unit back and forth. Scroll towards you, the LED should get brighter. Away from you, the LED should dim to flashing.
