I never had a power hack saw but I have a band saw in my shop and I mostly use it for most cutting work from cutting angle, bars, stainless steel to small structurals.

It's frustrating, Got the same problem before...
It's frustrating, Got the same problem before with my band saw ; clamp mechanism was not helpful esp when cutting round stock. My temporary solution was turning the drill press vise upside down...

I prefer horizontal band saw - a lot quieter, accurate, can be changed to vertical. Trajan 7x12 band saw. Band saws are versatile.
