    I doubt they were ever airtight for use with tubeless tires.

    Changing wheels and hubs etc, will also incur brake...

    I don't have a mill but it certainly helped when drilling.

    I have to agree with Vernon that they are more a security/anti theft/tamper proof nut than a "locking nut" as they don't actually lock.

    They are a great deterrent to thieves.
