    Got it sorted thanks nadroj, there's a switch on the speed selector that changes the direction, the one I think you're referring to changes the direction of the chuck and leadscrew.

    Thanks pipeclay, have had the cross-feed going, also the threading handle engaged, the threading movement only goes towards the tailstock. Leadscrew turns all the time.

    I counted 35, the gear has actually got dished...

    I counted 35, the gear has actually got dished teeth on it.
    Haven't found out how to get the carraiage to travel towards the chuck yet.

    Reil burner piping

    Hi all, am just looking at making a propane powered smelter. I have found the Reil burner and it seems to be what I'm after.
    Does the piping have to be black steel nipples or can galv be used...
