Hi Robyn2389.
You do make it difficult mate. To my knowledge, not all drill presses, generic or otherwise have the same diameter.
Also, I believe drill press wall thickness is fairly substantial so that will help in matching one to the other.
To get exactly what you want please supply all of the information ie diameter and wall thickness.
Here's some help on framing questions to get the answer you want in the shortest time.

just went and measured it 75mm or 3'',i want to move the top up 100mm which will then gie me better working 5'' for my chiselmorticer, thanks Grahame
So, which is it - 75mm or 3" (76.2mm)???
How long is the pipe column now and what wall thickness is it?
I don;t believe there are any stadard pipe sizes in either 75 or 76.2mm around. My best suggestion would be to go to a hydraulics service centre and ask if they have any used (or new, if you are wealthy) 2-1/2" cylinder tubing with 1/4" wall thickness. That will get you the 3" OD you are most likely looking for. Your drill press won't clamp to 75mm OD pipe if I'm guessing right, and if it is actually 75mm OD, then you will not be able to push a 3" pipe into the base table or head....
If you're getting pipe, find a friend that can turn it round for you also, as pipe is not perfectly round, can be anything upto a millimetre and a half or more out of round.

If it is the column being extended, how will you attach it? I would think there is a possibility the column on your existing drill could be cast iron.
It's going to be a toss up between Column extension and Column replacement.
a) Column Replacement
As Kryn says the replacement needs to be machined to round - will need access to a BIG lathe.
b) Column Extension
An extension could be done using tube and an internal collar, or solid bar with a machined step in the solid bar both of which could be done using a smaller lathe than a)
This wil prevent the addition of an easy rider style table lift which has a weight inside the pipe
c) replace the whole drill
It might be simple and easier, and not that much more than a or b, to look for a second hand floor standing DP.
all sorted thankyou all for comments
