They did not muck about selling the gear after they shut it down. Might go have a look today.

If I was closer id be very interested in that abwood multi grinder. Really quirky thing. Also that TOS HBM looks very little used.

For a railway workshops of over a hundred years there is sweet bugger all there. Talking to one of the ex-workers there, the metal working side has not been used for three years. The borer is a W100. Massive thing and looks to be fully accessorised with even the vertical head. In very good order. I imagine it will be a bargain for the buyer, pretty easy to remove from where it is as well., skate ninety degrees and straight out the door into a wide road area.
The lathes put me off colchester. A lot of them were the newer models (made in china I think) and all had half a turn of freeplay in the cross slide screw. The little Hercus cyl grinder looks OK. Radial drills were like new as well. Nothing was under power. The Macson TC grinder was an older one but has all the accessories. The Hafco turret mill is like new still as well.Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

Drugs must be involved here.
https://www.pickles.com.au/general/i...he-/1060011800
It was a 1959 model. Nothing special at all and looked like it was a 1959 model.
$6050 is the current bid
The Tos W100A Horizontal borer is sitting at $45 000 now.
It seems pickles does not like to show prices after the item has sold
Hafo mill at $6000.
Hercus 9A grinder went for $600.
Herbert mill ~$970 I think it was
Macson TC grinder $300.
Colchester Magnum lathe @ $20 000
Huge plasma cutter at $47 000.
There was a Waldown bench grinder with the angle sides for tool grinding, it went for $320.Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

20k for that magnum, especially with the wear you reported is certifiably insane. If you have the work for it then 45 for the borer is alright I guess. 5 or 6 of the right jobs and you are paid off. 20k would need to be a lot of manual lathe work.

The slideways were quite probably OK on that Colchester, it looked newish, just had half a turn of slack in the cross slide. There was talk that those Chinese made Colchesters had "issues". I am just surprised it went for that much when there have been heaps of similar sized lathes for sale in Australia over the past few years for less then half that price. The Nuttall price was just insane.
I think the borer was pretty reasonably priced. The mining industry is still going strong, it was a late model, still in production and was fully equipped.
It was less then a lot of people will pay for a car. And how long do they keep a car for?
I picked up a lucky dip pallet and a couple of wheeled trolleys for the shed. I was chasing the metal sprayer, as not shown in the photos there was another box of spray powders that came with it. In any case someone else wanted it more.Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

Picked up my purchases from the railway auction today. In the movie Tropic Thunder, there is a scene where the key phrase is "you never go full retard"
Well IMO whoever it is have gone full retard on their loading requirements. To the point they make you remove your vehicle keys, they are physically locked in a box and then you sit in your little area until it is loaded, then the box is unlocked and you are handed your keys back.
But I got my stuff, just plain absurd the loading requirements. No wonder the country is going broke.Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

Well too dark for good photo's now, here is a couple I prepared earlier.
Just a pallet of odd bods. About ten or more sets of new Ridgid 12R dies in BSP threads. a 24mm new rotabroach, a Mitutoyo magnetic base, a swag of round punch and dies, used and new, probably for some punching machine they had. new and used air impact chisels and punches, heap of new top and bottom jaws and springs for 18 and 24" Ridgid stilsons. Heaps of Tweco welding shrouds and other mig torch odds and ends, that I will never use.
Think I paid high $60 for that lot.
I am glad I did not get any machines now, I suspect the cost to get them loaded will be pretty big as you have to hire only inducted contractors in given the loading rules.
