Default Metal replacement gears for the Sieg mill & lathe

Hi, somewhere I have seen people replace the plastic gears in their Sieg lathe & mill with metal ones...

are these available commercially, and if so has anyone bought and used them.. how good are they, what were the costs (all the accessories are now worth more than the machine) and where dod I get them..? Local or international.?

    Regards
    Andy

For the mill, forget the metal gears and just get the belt drive.

Not sure if any of the Sieg lathes have plastic gears. My C6 has only metal gears.

    Default It's the 'fuse'

Just a word of caution about replacing plastic gears with metal ones...... in many cases the plastic gear is considered a sacrificial gear and is designed to fail under "catastrophic" failure. This is to prevent a greater damage to other less replaceable parts in the drive. It acts as the ''fuse' to prevent even more serious damage.
