lets get some activity - your projects
G'day all
I think this forum needs a bit more activity so how about we tell what projects we are working on?
For myself, the current, most important project, is repairing an Elliot Mini Jig borer.
This is a smaller, high precision vertical spindle mill. ( http://www.lathes.co.uk/elliott%20mini%20jig/index.html )
I bought it from work, where it had been in storage, slowly going rusty, for the last 10 years or so. It was put there after someone dropped it off a forklift when it was being moved. The spindle was bent, the front pulley was broken and the cross feed handwheel was also broken. Since then the motor and rear pulley has also been removed.
So far I have repaired the spindle, and have almost finished repairing the front pulley. Still have the handwheel and rear pulley to sort out.
I'm thinking of using it as the basis for a DIY CNC project.
So come on, lets hear what you are up to
regards

My one and only project has been planning the resoration of my AI Hembrug toolroom lathe. I have had it here for almost six months now and only managed to clean off the grease and do a preliminary survey. (Around the time I putchased it my ovetime burden quadrupled, so my shop time is rare)
I also parted out my 9A Hercus recently...almost all gone now. It ended up being an organ donor for eight buyers to aid in their restorations.
My other projects involve reorganising my shop to concentrate the woodworking enough to allow a seperate bay for the lathe and eventual mill*

My 'real' project is to build a CNC router but I'm sidetracked now in adding a QCTP and a 4 jaw chuck to my lathe.
I need to bore out the QCTP body to fit it to the compound but I need a 4 jaw chuck so I can do the boring...Geoff

Speaking of four jaw chucks, and cheap ones at that, have a look at this little windfall:

1. I'm working on my Parkinson power hacks saw , Its almost finished , I need to get some 3mm aluminium cut to finish the guard for the drive gear and wheel. Ohaul the coolant pump ,machine to push rods for the hydraulic pump and install the new single phase 3hp motor ,bore the drive pulley to 28mm and cut a key way.
2. Finish the lean to for my aircompressor .
Future projects,
3. Modify the spindle on my woodlathe from a solid one to one that has a no2 internal morse taper .
4. Machine some face plates for the woodie lathe.
5 Make some more tool rests for the woodie lathe .
6. Make a mobile base for my band saw.
7. Make a ball turning tool for the Myford
8 .Storage rack for the shed to get back some space
9 . build a rail (like a Procut) saw mill to slab some logs I have in the back yard
10. build storage shed to dry and store slabbed logs.
Thats all I can think of at the moment I'm sure theres more metal work ,this does not include the woowork projects .
Now that I have listed the metal projects Ill use this thread as a reference list of what I have to do.

my next project is in motion already the QUORN, tool and cutter grinder, I haven't bought the castings yet, i want to make sure I can build the high precision spindle before I spend $500.00 on them!!

Ouch.
Have you been doing much glass grinding in the shed? I found out the hard way just how well fibreglass dust sticks to everything a few years ago. I spend a few years rebuilding a Bolwell Mk7 which included a lot of glass repairs. Could never get rid of all the dust from the shed. When we moved about 3 years ago one of the last things I did when the old shed was empty was pull the power breakers and then got in and hosed the whole shed out from top to bottom. Was the only way I could get the dust of the frame. Makes any bare steel rust faster too.
Whats the mill in the back corner with the head missing?

I've been starting to think the same. The original poster on practicalmachinist.com has only been registered a short while and has very few posts half of which are referring people to stuff his 'aussie mate' sells.
The email from the two different parties seemed very similar in style.
The plus side is that payment is via direct deposit and ut does seem like a lot of trouble to go to for what will be quite a small return.Geoff

I was tempted. The deal sounds too good to be true. He could quite easily sell these for a lot more. I'd be wary of it. If it sounds too good to be true it often is.

Well I am a newbie but I have a few projects I need to do. Just completed a gun for a new type dalek from doctor who. A guy at work has already built the one used in the old tv series, and now he is starting on the new shape. He asked if I could make it and it is a fun easy project so I took it on. Now I can go back to making the robot from lost in space. Dam I need a life LOL
Cheers
