Stainless steel hex bar
Anybody know where I can get small lengths( 300mm or so) of s/s metric hex in Australia? I think the sizes I need are 16 mm and 19 mm.
Tried Ebay and Google.
I want to make some filler/ drain plugs for one of my m/bikes and they should fit metric spanners, etc.

Hello Stephen if you have too much trouble finding what your after in W.A,I would more than likely be able to source material and get it posted to you.
Short of that can you get hold of some round stock and mill the flats,or use imperial 5/8" is only .004" smaller than 16mm and 3/4" is only .002" smaller ,shouldnt be a great deal of slop for a ring, openender or socket.
Is your main problem material sizes or getting it cut to length.

Offcuts Galore sells offcuts of sheet, rod, tube and bar in various metals including stainless. He tends to list stainless steel using the abbreviation SS and this may explain why you didn't find him on an eBay search.
There is no hex listed at the moment, but the listing tends to be updated once or twice a week, so it pays to keep an eye out. When I buy from him, I tend to buy several pieces of metal of different kinds at once - George (the owner) is happy to combine the postage and the saving becomes quite significant if you have 4 or 5 pieces to buyCheers

I will second Bohler (www.buau.com.au) as a good source. They are a pretty large outfit.
I was at their Brisbane branch today picking up some 90 & 70mm 1045.
I see a golf ball launcher on my horizon.
Be aware they have minimum sale price of $50 so you will probably need to work out what else you need to get the order value up.
Since you have a lathe there is no doubt there would be other steel you need.
Haven't used Global Metals but they are also in WA

Sterob, Another place to try is Prime Steel, Townsend St, Malaga, 92482666 they deal in off cuts of many metals. Not cheap but they will cut to length if req. No connection but do get some stuff from there. Alan.
