Default Went and scored a mobile trolley for the mig

I saw a cattledog for Auto1 the other day showing a trolley for $69 so thought Id go check it out today while I was wandering around Bunbury... so Im in there and theres one of these things standing on the floor little sign on it and all shiney and blue... so Im talking to one of the sales blokes and I wonder out loud if it would be strong enough so he says "no worries mate shes solid as"... mmm as what I wonder... so I give it a bit of a wriggle cause its gonna get a few wriggles its fine... give it a bit harder wriggle mmm bit of a womble happening so I go get one of their jacks and lift and put it on the table... mmmm that shouldnt happen eh?

Theres a grind and a gentle slow twist to the left then crash and its layin on the floor!! now thats not a good thing I think

Then I remembered some comments here about how thin and cheep the trolleys were at some of these places and started thinking maybe I should just make one myself and be done? gotta make a stack of bases for the machines so whats another one?

So I smile and say "nah dont think thats for me mate" and start to leave... then I notice another trolley out of the corner of my eye... solid looking buggar with a lockup tray some thick foam stuff on the 3 shelves... mmm.. so I wander over call the bloke over and laughing I say "what about we give this buggar the same treatment eh? may as well find out if its the same crap as that eh?" he sorta went all crosseyed and his eyes start looking left and right as though a bunch of whollopers had just busted him... so I give this one a wriggle... not a murmur... mmm bit more of a wriggle nothing at all solid as... the blokes getting interested now "I'll get the jack mate" says he and races over to the wreckage and so we put it on the top shelf and... nothing... he looks at me and picks it up and drops it! muffled BANG... nothing... he goes and gets a heavier jack and puts that on nothing he looks at me I look at him and we both smile and pick up the jacks muffled bang bang... nothing

"Mate its sold!" I said... he smiles and go gets a newy in the box and I pay up and then Im gone

Set it up tonight and mates I will tell you this thing is one solid wee trolley and the mig and accessories fit PERFECTLY!... the mig and helmet on top the hose and connection for the gas cylinder hangs down and rests perfectly on the second shelf the handpeice fits the small tray at the front while the clamp hooks onto the migs handle... on the second shelf the grinder sits along with the wire brush and the gauntlets and apron (and the gas connector) on the bottom shelf the G clamps magnet clamp and clear face mask for the grinder... the lockable drawer holds the grinding disks spare wire brush and spare spool of wire

All up for $120 I reckon its a bloody good buy! ... looks a damned sight better than I could weld it up to look too!! BONUS!!

oooh and I gave it a bit of a workout after it was all together... rolled it around the shed between the thicknesser and table saw along in front of the benches around the router and between the lathe and the superjaws and back... great!! so I thought theres the mig sitting on on the top shelf on this heavy foam stuff maybe it needs a bit of a frame? so I give the mig a bit of a push... no movement I pick it up theres these nice deep indentations where the little feet on the bum of the mig impressed onto it... firm as buggary! this sucker aint goin nowhere... unless for some reason it tips over then even some rails wouldnt save it but for moving around getting to the work this is excellent

Anyway just thought yous blokes would like to know that the dearer trolley at Auto1 is good value.

    Ya dopey bloody wombat!!!!!
How the bloody hell are ya gunna git any bloody heckperince at weld'n if ya keep buy'n the spit instead of mak'n it....Struth!

Ya coulda bought 4 wheels for $20 each, a stick of RHS for about $30 & a can o spray pain for about $7.... ya woulda been in front by 3 bucks.

so he says "no worries mate shes solid as"...
I tell ya, that is another Aussieism that gets the 'visiters' go'n...
They just don't git the gramma.... "as solid as WHAT?" they reckon...
If you try & tell 'em about a brick dunnie, they just git more lost look'n & wander off look'n for 'a native' to ask.

And THAT Cliff me ol china plate is why I LOVE our lingo so much!! Almost instant confusion followed by increadible frustration great lingo is Aussie!!

As to the trolley... yes mate I know I know I could have done it meself... sure could have... BUT!! see I was actually on another "mission" which in itself almost turned into mission impossible!... that being to try to find SOMEWHERE in Bunbury that sold compression springs the same as the ones from the thicknesser... do you think I could?? NOT A BLOODY CHANCE!!... I spent well over 3 hours today going back and forth all over the damned place!! FINALLY found that Westrak (CAT) could get me some... a few mm shorter in length but otherwise exactly the same as the one that spun out into the void near the shed... so I ordered 4... they are of course coming ex Melbourne and will cost $11 each but at least I found the damned things!!

THAT was my main function today... to find a source of the damned springs... oh and if I had time which ended up I didnt thanks to the springs issue... I was planning on getting 5 sets of wheels (2 locking and 2 non locking) some angle some flat and some rectangle tubing to make 5 sets of mobile bases... BUT!! due to all that crap... Ive decided I will womble up to Carbetex on Monday and get one from them to use as a template... IF they have any that is!! Bloody PTMS have been driving me knuts since I ordered 5 sets from them over a month ago and they still havent got any!! aaaaaargggggghhh!! so hopefully Carbetex will but I'll ring em first And if theyve got those $45 jobs that you add a chunk of timber to make the length I'll even get 5 of them and be done just pick up some suitable sized steel to fit instead of the timber and whallah!! ALL BLOODY DONE!! YEEEEEEEEEEEESSS!!

So finding this one has saved me a major brain phart!! which is a good thing isnt it? and its done and over right? and thats also a good thing right? RIGHT!!! YAY ME!!! I WIN!!

Onya Dingo! I mean you drop into Auto1 to take a squizz at a trolley and you're smart enough to see it's bodgy but the dill tells you it's solid as but you know that's a pork pie and give him the flick. As you start to do a Harold Holt you perve on another trolley which is a ripper and buy it for practically mate's rate. You must be grinning like a shot fox!

No good Dingo. Not acceptable, take it back! It is your right of Passage to weld up your own MIG trolley.

You will be shunned by all decent welding communities.

Yeah, come on now. Who the hell would buy a welder and then "buy" a trolley ... that's just not on

I've purchased 2 welders in my time (a stick welder and a mig - still have/use both) and the first thing I did on both occasions was to weld up a trolley.

You can also use the trolley as justification for purchasing the welder - "see honey, I have already saved money with the welder, by welding up a trolley (for the welder ) ... do you know how much these things cost in the shops ..."

By the way - it's also much more acceptable to use scrap steel for the trolley rather than going out an buying new stuff.
    Cheers.

Fair dinkum, Bob, that's nearly spot on. You've made one small blue - just enough to prove you're not dinky-di. If you hadn't we'd all be worrying that ya not a real septic but instead an Aussie havin' a lend.
