Default Home Made Digital Height Gauge

    Dear members,

I'm sure someone out there had already done this. Convert their spare 150mm digital vernier into a height gauge. They are so cheap these days.

I wish to scribe lines across a metal work piece, at a certain distance up from the base.

I figure it's probably a simple matter to use an existing 150mm digital vernier, clamp the bottom jaw in a block, then extend the top jaw out and down, to reach ground zero.

    Have you done this?

    All comments are appreciated,

    Regards,

    Ken

Tricky part is holding it in such a way that it is at a right angle to the surface below it. Given that a decent one could be had on fleabay for $50, why would you bother?

Of course, the other way to do it would be with a set of odd leg calipers..

    Hi Kev,

This almost exactly what I had in mind, but will incorporate a different scriber at the bottom, and add a fine adjustment clamp and screw to the mast above the vernier body. Should be as good as a bought one!

    Thanks for your efforts,

    Ken
