    Default Baby Linisher/Belt Sander

    Hi All,
    Thought I'd share this.

I saw this thread on HMEM: https://www.homemodelenginemachinist...inisher.31326/

Here's the machine in question: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Belt-San....c100005.m1851

I'm not normally into cheap Chinese tools, but for the price, this seems like a useful tool to have. Clearly it needs some minor mods to make it useable. It runs 40x686 belts which I haven't been able to find online. Cutting down 50mm belts might be easier than modifying this machine to take 50mm belts as this guy did.

I have a Multitool linisher attachment on a 3 phase GMF grinder, so when I need grunt I have it. But for a lot of my work it's too brutal. It has no work-rest which makes obtaining square edges near impossible.

Thanks. $13 each seems a little bit expensive for the belts.

Can't see any spring loaded tensioning/loosening mechanism which is a plus for the multitool linisher.
I'd be modifying the rollers rather that cutting the belts, a 50 mm wide belt is a very useful size.
Apart from the drive roller s the others appear to be a bunch of 10 mm wide bearings?

The bloke in the HMEM thread modifies the rollers to take 50mm belts. But I wonder if it has enough grunt to run 50mm belts.

Motor says its 900W but I would presume that's input - maybe 600W output? - should be enough though.

I just noticed this. At first I thought they hadn't tightened the bolt, but I think the lug is bent. Quality control may be an issue.

    Yeah, not very inspirational.

    Hi Chris,

I agree ! I think that the lug may be bent as well. Not a very good sign !

I actually asked Baz on HMEM where he got it off eBay as I couldn't find one on there.

I could use one of these.

I had one of these little suckers delivered today, first impressions are not to shabby. I sharpened a couple of hatchets with it straight out of the box and it performed reasonably well, the motor could be put under load whilst in use but I suspect anything more taxing would be too much for it. So I don't know about fitting it with wider belts for anything but light loads.
