Default Manual for Hercus AL 330 Metal Lathe

I have just bought a Hercus badged Hafco AL 330, dated 1997. Does anyone know where I can get a workshop manual for this machine?

Hello Auskart, thanks for replying. I'm new to MWF... and to forum life in general. Attached couple of photos... they are the only photos I have as I haven't picked the machine up yet.

Hello Jack620, thanks for your reply. The lathe is badged as a Hercus but is actually a Hafco AL 330. Please refer to previous reply post photos.

This isn't the same lathe but you may find some similarities between it and yours. It's a Grizzly.

Also AL-335 which has a different quick change gearbox setup but may share some similarities as well.

    Hi SA Raider,
    Welcome to the MetalWork Forum,
To have a better look around go to the Forum box in the top left hand cnr, click on it. From the next screen choose FORUM HOME and click gain. From there just scroll down the pages.

If you have the patience to wait, someone will eventually log in and they may have a manual for you.

In the meantime ,one thing I would do for sure is to make a diagram of the spindle speed chart-the one that is pictured ,is just about worn away. If you are lucky to be able to still read it.

Make a copy and you can engrave the numbers/letters back later on so.

The original manual is likely to be a disappointment as the are often poor quality photo copies with not a lot of how to content as far as operation goes and an illegible list of parts.

The lathe is probably one made under a few different names.

To me it looks like a CQ6230 with a Norton type gearbox- but I have seen pics of badged CQ6230 lathes out there with quick change boxes.
Bear in mind that the grizzly manuals while a free download are American and some info does not apply readily to Australia.

Electrics and the opposite position of the saddle travel wheel come to mind. The guys here had a look for an older lathe manual a while back and we found the grizzly stuff had been updated.

Even if you can get one similar ,the operating instruction side of them is helpful to a person new to lathes.
