    What I asked was if the swivel head moves the blade further from the vice than swivelling the vice.

    It does to a degree - the jaw furthest away from the swivel most of all obviously. However, if you think about it, it is not much worse than cutting straight - the material still needs to be long enough to be in contact with the front jaw. On my saw maybe 20mm at 45 degrees?

    There are ways around this if cutting short stock though. I normally use a piece of RHS and a spacer on the other end of the jaw to 'extend' the back jaw across in this case. I also have a few other bandsaw jigs that allow me to cut shorter stock more easily as well.
