Replacement Power Feed Gear
G'day everyone,
I'm chasing a replacement plastic power feed gear for a Hafco HM 52 milling machine for my local Men's Shed, the gear came out of the X axis power feed box.
They've tried Hare & Forbes and didn't have any luck and I've tried eBay and found 4 common types but none of them match up to the part that came off the power feed unit, one is close, but not quite.
Dimensions are:
OD = 92.8mm
ID = 45.8mm
Thickness = 13mm
Photo:

The one that's close:

Any help tracking down a replacement would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I cant quite tell from the photo is it a helical gear? Do you know what module it is and what the tooth count is?
One of us can probably make it if you cant find a replacement

Post it over. I'll make you one.
Michael
(It's helical and I get a tooth count of around 109t, so probably around 30 DP/ 0.8M)

Thanks Michael,
You're correct, it has 109 teeth, but I'm not sure about it being helical, it looks straight cut to my eye (Edit: straight cut at an angle that is) but being so small I could be wrong.
I'll post it over, I'm not sure if I still have your address, could you please send it via PM.
Cheers,
Ben

I also have the HM52 and bought 4 or 5 gears from the US years ago when our dollar up and before postage went up, but won't fit one of my power feeds as I have 3.
I found this seller on AliExpress some time back and and saved it in case I need it for that one.
The shop caters for all brands, and at $33 for 5 it's not worth making one.Using Tapatalk

I didn't screen shot it, but it's free shipping to Australia.
I don't speak highly of Machinery House, but to not carry spares for there own machines. They would probably charge you $80-$120 if they did have it.Using Tapatalk

Do you think it might be the ASONG gear? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Milling-...2F-TfnhM7UHrQg
I did consider it but the OD is about 0.8mm undersized and it's 1mm thicker, although it does have the right amount of teeth...
What do you blokes think?

Thanks for the link Dave J, for 30 odd dollars I'll buy 5 of those Asong gears for just in case.

I've ordered 5 ASONG gears to try out, if they don't fit the Men's Shed power feed unit I'll sell them to somebody here who can use them.
Thanks for the offer Michael, if it doesn't work out I'll accept your offer to make a replacement.
Cheers,
Ben

The measurements you took and what what advertised where so close, so I think you will be fine
Many years ago people wrote up about getting a spare gear with them.
The power feed companies used to have a spare gear in the bottom cap as there are clips in them to hold it, but I didn't get one in any of mine. I guess they cut costs.
I can't remember which brand of mine needed a spare.Using Tapatalk

I just looked and the one Im missing a spare for is the ASONG as it was factory fitted to the mill like the one your working on.,
The 5 I bought from the US (Shars I think it was) where these ALSGS ones, as that's the other 2 power feed brands on my mill. The mailing box is dated February 2013, so I guess they will last nearly a lifetime if I'm careful lolUsing Tapatalk
