Default Spare parts for 1994 CQ6230 12x36 lathe

    Hi,
I have a 1994 QC6230 lathe. I need the idler gear for the change gears. It is a 80 tooth.
Does anyone know where to get one?
    Cheers

I think you will need to buy a stock gear from someone like Ronson gear here in melbourne or have one of us make it for you. Probably need more info though.

Its most likely a metric module gear, determining which is tricky. Could you tell us the gear OD, bore ID, keyway size and material?

I have that style lathe and the manual, l will grab my manual out over the next few days and take a picture as I'm sure my gasweld toolex manual states what module gears they are along with other useful info like the dimensions to make a new half nut etc.
If your in a hurry grizzly manuals are online for similar lathes.

Being a standard gear for these lathes I'd be trying to get one through AliExpress or albaba china. They would be made by the thousands and cheap.

Also keep in mind that it's an idler gear, so from a gear ratio perspective is not critical how many teeth as long as it will physically fit.

I don't have a 80 tooth in my setup, but here is a picture of the gear info that might help out

You could ask around some of the Qld. high schools.
A lot of them had CQ6230 lathe. It was a rare thing to encounter anyone who had students cutting threads and the change gears might lay unused in a storeroom somewhere.

    Hi All

I have a 1992 CQ6230 lathe and i.m rebuilding the apron, on the 1994 parts diagram you posted it showed a oil sight glass which I don,t have a hole for and seems there is no other oil level indicator. Could you tell me what the distance is from the base of the apron to the centre of the sight glass is as I would like to drill 1 in while i have it in pieces.

    Thanks in advance

    Scotto

To the center it's 38mm in from the side and 34mm from the bottom.
The outside diameter of the sight glass is 22mm, so the hole would be 19 to 20mm as the lip is only small on the sight glass.

I also added seals to 2 shafts so the oil level could be filled higher while I cleaned everything up. It seemed to make sense as there is not a lot of oil in there standard.
It took some chassing as they where odd size seals but I found them in Germany I think and somewhere else in the world on eBay.

This post will show you the pictures etc

Thanks heaps Dave i'll just be putting a level screw this time but will find a sight glass and put it in later. Thats a good idea with the seals I will do that on the next strip down.

    Hi Dave

Greatly appreciated. I have just put in a level tapped hole and plug in for the moment I will order a sight glass. Why put seals in it was it leaking? I found the switch lever bracket hole where drilled all the way thru so some sealant on those bolts are a must.
Where is the best place for parts?
    Thanks again

    Cheers

The seals where so I could run the oil level higher and let the oil get to gears it wasn't.
I wrote about that in the linked post.

What sort of parts? Sight glasses are all over eBay and AliExpress.

    What numbers in above diagram?
It's been many years since I posted that thread where I knew every component inside out.

For the shafts you make them yourself, or might be lucky and be able to buy some bright bar.

Gears can be bought cheap in all types and sizes on AliExpress, not so many on ebay as I have been chasing some up lately.

Just measure your gear and count the teeth.
Then go looking for the same which will tell you the module. Once you have the gear you can bore and pin it, or use a set screw.
I would have to look in my book, but I think all mine are 2.5 module.
Pipeclay and Michael on here are the people to talk gears too, as they know far more than me in that area

If your looking to buy them, Gasweld or Hare and Forbes would be able to get them, but there might be differences.

the numbers off the above diagram are 412 & 447.
The shafts are easy to make and if i can get the gears, makes for a simply fix
Thanks for your time and effort

I went and grabbed my lathe manuals as I knew it has everything about the lathe in them. Another great thing Gasweld lathes come with.

Compare these with your lathe, if they are the same it has the module for the gears so you can buy the right gear.
The other shaft (447) is just a ecentric on the end, which is easy enough to make in a 4 jaw chuck.

I'm not sure about the quality of the photos as there only from my phone, if you need close ups of any other info just let me know
