    Interesting Post Joe.
    Your not put off then?....
Whats the flow rate of your slurry pump?
Are you agitating your glass beads at all?
I've seen those guns and I think they consume a serious amount of air.
We might need a smaller version. The guy in NZ , on U Tube has been experimenting with a smaller DIY gun.

    Good luch with your experiementing.

    No, not put off yet...
I don't have numbers for the flow rate. A good amount, but not much pressure.
If you look on the photo inside the drum, you can just make out the shiny stirring nozzle, and the third photo (large version) shows the valves for mixing and pumping out. it stirs quite well; The outlet to the pump is in the middle under the paddles.
The air jet is about 1.6mm bore.
A smaller version would make it even slower in terms of impact area I think.
I'd rather pursue a bigger pump and a bigger compressor....
Off for a rest at the beach for a week now. Will update as I get to it again.

Just so you know the way to get the lustre up is turn the air off

Use the water slurry to polish the part. the air is the speed factor and the lustre is the pumped slurry

(Dana Ridge unit at work and have spoken to the agent directly about it it gets those CT cases good and shiny same as mass finishing)

    Thanks Bruce,
what size water pump does the Dana Ridge use and what pressure does it produce? Also, roughly what diameter is the slurry nozzle on it?
Last question: what size medium do you use in the Dana on aluminium?
I'm back from my little camping break, and I want to experiment a bit more.
I have a Honda powered single impeller fire fighting pump (5HP) which is spare. I'm thinking I might try with that... Any thoughts?

    Right

Pump pipework all two inch dia
Flow 20 litres per 15 seconds ( Bucket and stop watch)
    Nozzle dia 5 mm (carbide)
Interesting side note as slurry was allowed to settle not more than 10-12mm deep coating in base of bucket
    INDA Grade glass bead

Sorry been really busy at work at could not get near it for a couple of days

Very useful information. Thank you. That's a flow rate of 80l/min! No wonder my pump is a bit wimpy. When I get a chance, I'll hook up the fire pump and see what flow rate I can get. I'll ale have to get some glass bead medium. I've been using the stuff from my dry blasting cabinet. Garnet I think, I don;t think that will do the pump any good in the longer run...

I've read that 40 -50L/s flow rates work ok......no evidence to prove.....
That is what I was going to work on.
