Hafco HM10 mill drill
I have had the HM10 for a few years, but found the 350W motor not quite powerful enough to do what i need, and it will "stall" sometimes.
I recently acquired a herless SM1 Vertical mill, in good nick, but it is probably too big for what i need and my limited skill set.
Is there an uprated electric motor available for the HM10? That would probably solve my issues if it was an easy install and i can sell the SM1...

SM1 is still a pretty small mill if its the one with the tilting top ram? I dont really think mill size has anything to do with skill really, youll make the same mistakes big or small and the consequences arent much worse on a machine 30% bigger.

I am just installing a machine like the SM1 after having a round column mill - it is so much better. It is much more rigid and creates a lot less vibration. My opinion for what its worth is stick with the SM1.

Thanks Andrew,
I think that may be a little over the top for what I want, I was just thinking of a 500w motor instead of the 350w standard one. The Seig SX2 mill is essentially the same but with 500w DC moter, wondering if it is a easy exchange as they have different mounting points

if the motors have different mounting points you might as well add an adapter plate and use a 1HP 3P motor on it and drive it with a VFD.
Happy to help with the VFD side of things seeing as you are local.

Thanks, but I dont have 3 phase, and, excuse my beginers ignorance, what is VFD short for?

Hi Jonny, you don't need 3Phase power. The VFD runs from 240 and makes the 3Phase using the VFD (Variable frequency drive).
Check this out.
