hi
will a propane gas bottle with a heating torch give enough heat to bend
a 50x8 mm bar at right angles

Maybe, if you can arrange some firebrick to minimise the heat loss.
Depends on how tight the bend radius is.
And how long the piece is, to get leverage.

charcoal will do it..it will take a while to get it red hot and a fan assisted charcoal bed will be hotter

If it is the bunnings type then they struggle to make anything truly hot - maybe hot enough for helping press stuff in out of other parts etc but *really* hot - nope.
I keep a few red bricks dry and out of the weather so that if I need to heat something as best I can I arrange them and the piece such that the heat doesn't escape too much.
