    Default Melbsaw surface grinder

    Hi all what do you think of the Melbsaw surface grinder?

    I saw that on gumtree, did you buy it? It's a pretty single purpose device, no feeds of any description I can see just that swinging action. I'd like to know what it was designed for.

    I think the idea is that if you are manufacturing and have many work peices that need a ground surface then a jig would be set up to hold the job and the DOC set and then it can operated by the tea lady or a casual worker with no machining knowledge.

    No i didn't buy it, I had a good think about it but as you said it's single purpose device not for me.

    Typically they are used to rapidly grind plate to size, for example, tool and die work. I've also seen them used for grinding engine heads. Not precision devices though (some times referred to as 'slash grinders')
