Unfortunately there are no dealers for 5-600 klms from me and this machine is ok apart from the petrol engine.
It is plumbed for attachments , has a mast which suits where we use it , engine is a letdown .
Diesel equipment which fits our specs is rare even in Brisbane , I can buy gas/petrol by the dozen but wont happen due to this experience.

As I have just stated the engine is the only fault , I do not care if any machine has a different engine as long as it does what it is supposed to do and safely.
An engine swap does not alter the machine to a frankenstein , more the opposite , and swapping out crap for new is better than buying second hand and starting the circus again.
Kryn seems to understand how this pans out.

It's amazing what can be achieved in 2 days. I've seen engine swaps where a vehicle was driven in the shed on a Friday Night, and Sunday afternoon driving around. Suzuki LJ50 with Corolla 1200? conversions. For an experienced bloke like Mike, shouldn't be too much of a problem, making the adaptor plate would take the longest time, and most of that could be premade. Mike probably has a full engineering shop available to him to use.
Please don't put people down for wanting to make (for him) a better machine, if we all did that, we'd still be driving horse and buggies.

Sorry, but I couldn't think of any another word, I'm not as highly edubacated.

As some have stated the engine swap is simple , just getting the bolt pattern in the adaptor plate to join onto the existing transmission.
the only thing that may cause a delay is the drive shaft splines , that may stretch things a bit.
I may have to rebuild a Hilux motor first as getting someone to supply an engine without a core to swap is prooving to be a sticking point , they along with others cant understand I am dumping one engine and fitting a totally different replacement.
Not a big deal either as most 4 cylinder vehicle engines are of similar dimensions ,just that the exhaust and intakes could be opposite from how it currently is.
I may have to get the Cat V50 going fists as the more I examine the little machine the more it looks like the counterweight has to be removed. That requires a 2.5 ton machine at least, the reason for removing the counterweight is to get easy access to the hydraulic pump drives.

I find fixing basically anything involves removing the counterweight or mast. They get you coming and going

The counterweight removal will also allow me to eventually change the exhaust system , currently the muffler is inside the counterweight just behind the radiator , does little to assist cooling.
I will cut a hole in the LH top of the counterweight where it is the thinnest and run the exhaust up the back of the safety frame out of the way.
And for the people who have suggested rebuilding the petrol engine which is currently in the machine , that has been researched , there are different main bearing bolt systems in even the same model motor depending on when it was made.
I have no intention of wasting time removing this thing and then waiting weeks for some spareparts guy to send the wrong parts.
If a petrol engine was to be found it would have to be totally stripped , rebuilt to new specs or better before even thinking of trying to fit it .
And to those who say that an engine cant be swapped out in two days , please look ay what hours are actually in two days , 48 , because sometimes if something has to be going at a time then all the necessary bits are sitting on a shelf ready to use if required and if the basic dimensions are close as well as both motors having a SAE bell housing makes life a lot easier.
Sorry but I try to do my home work before starting any work on any machine , mine or a customers.

I have even started to look at rebuilding the Petrol junkpile in it and that even has to be removed , dismantled just to be able to measure piston and bearing sizes as it appears that in some persons wisdom there were several variants .
I have not had any success in sourcing a replacement as the suppliers cant follow that I am looking at rebuilding a machine with a view to reliability not just keep it the same with only a possible five years before having to tear it apart and rebuild a motor not designed to work and last..
yes they are able to put around in a car for years but this is a machine which has to be reliable . I have found several diesel machine an when checked out they were poorly maintained and abused .
Unfortuneatly , the operators do not treat then too kindly when they get a few hours on them , they have a poor attitude like many , if its more than 12 months old flog it .
That is instant dismissal with no comeback in my workplace.

I have located a Diesel engine which can be fitted with some intake , exhaust plumbing changes , move the oil filter off the engine to a remote mount for ease of change.3Litre turbo with intercooler , big jump in power which will be good.
The oil drain will be modified like I have done with other low clearance machines , put a bend in place of the existing sump plug, plumb that to a convenient place on the outside of the machine , then fit a channel guard.
I will be exploring this one further even if it takes a bit longer to do .

If you are able to find out the exact model number of that petrol engine you might find it shares the same block as what is fitted to a car. If that is the case then you can grab something from the wreckers, rebuild it and then do a swap. Would be minimal down time that way. Do you recall how many litres it is?
Though if you can get the diesel conversion sorted cheaply enough would be a better option. What was it out of?

I have exhausted nearly all wreckers in a 500k driving range, 1986 Magna 2.0 litre engines not around in any condition.
The diesel is from a Hilux , 3.0l Turbo , plenty of spares and will run .
It has a computer but that is not a problem, I will need to strip the little machine and then make an adaptor plate first , , followed by engine mounts , then the fun can start, plumbing for intake and exhaust, most of which will be mounted topside for ease of maintenance and to keep heat down in the engine bay , the intercooler will be behind the seat on top of the counterweight , exhaust will be mounted vertical on lh side of frame.
And yes it will take a few weeks as my spare time has vanished .Earning a living will take precedence , I can borrow a machine from a close by freight company.
