Pretty sure a 2 Litre magna never existed so that could be why you couldn't find any. In that era they were 2.6 litres model code is 4G54.

If the engine in your forklift is a 2 Litre it would be a 4G52 found in sigmas, scorpions and l200's. You need to check the code on the block, but maybe you don't have access to it?

What is the hilux engine you got hold of. Is it the the 5LE, 1KZ or 1KD?

The petrol engine will not be rebuilt as the parts are difficult to obtain , the only people interested are in America, buying a second hand petrol motor is a waste of time as the same problems would occur.

some of the staff at the wreckers have no idea of what an engine swap is about, they need to know what year , model and when you tell them its out of a forklift they go very silent.
To me a motor is a motor , make it fit , dont care what the naysayers come up with , let them actually take this sort of project on and see just what is involved , swapping engines in larger equipment is no big deal as many manufacturers had different makes of engines available as options for the purchaser.
Just buy the kit required to swap a cat to a cummins or even to a detroit.
The Hilux motor is complete with turbo and intercooler, I dont care what year or model as that does not make any difference , I have rebuilt several of these for our own vehicles with no problems , the supplier will even send a ECU with it .

I am over the petrol crap , difficult to source parts and poor reliability, I think that it has had a few hundred spent on it in the last few months for little result.

It is a case now of buy the diesel strip it check and rebuild to my specs , eg slightly higher compression , better fuelling control and a decent cooling system .
This will then run for 10 years with little worries , just oil and filter changes , maybe a set of injectors , no big deal.

I vote put a Detroit in it. You'll need a few extra sets of earplugs though.

Might not be much room for an operator if a 12V92 was used, but it would wake the neighbours up.

Mike, I have been following this thread with interest as I have helped my mate do a few of these conversions. My only concern is that if you use the turbocharged engine you may have some issues with the turbo lag and it bogging down. From memory the last one we did, we used a 2L 2.4 Litre diesel out of a Hi-Ace or a Hilux and it had real good throttle response.

I reckon thats the same old one we have at work a v12 twin turbo with twin superchargers... its barely big enough for the job! It needs help from a modern rather large CAT, Id hate to have to pay to run it we get approx 6hrs of run time(providing its a minimal load)from a 3000ltr tank

If the Toyoya engine is found to have Turbo lag the the turbo may be modified or replaced with something that does not have that problem.
At the moment I am getting quite a lot of information from overseas people who do not suffer from the " its old and you must replace it with a modern petrol engine of the same make" garbage that comes from so called parts dealers and mechanical "experts.

Its a machine that is currently useless and I want to make it reliable .

I have had to resurect the HG52 again as there is a delay in one of the parts for the diesel ( 2 months) .

I removed the mechanical petrol pump as it was just covering a hole , put valve stem seals on with out removing the head .

Just ran a compressed air line into the plug holes and set it for 35-40 psi to hold the valves.

Then rebuilt the carby again , fiddled around with the distributor as well.

It runs, still as gutless as ever but I need a small forklift for about a week .

I am finding that as Australia no longer makes vehicles , parts now have to come from the US as the local people dont hold stock.
