The rubber on my wheels is around 6mm and BobLs around 8mm the commercially available tyres are 4mm. Are you suggesting making an aluminium ring and shrinking it on to the existing wheel?

That would be one way of doing it (I actually thought of just tacking a rolled ring in place but your way sounds more interesting...)
A ring of 2mm Al would be enough to let you use a 4mm tyre. A ring of 3mm would allow you to even put a crown on it.

Its an 450 (18") Elektra Beckum....one of their cheaper models so I understand...but it seems to do the job I need it to do.

I have found a company in Wingfield that will do the job for $50 a wheel. This is more in keeping with my budget I will report on how that goes when I get it done.

In the mean time I have taken the wheels of and found the next issue. The bore of the drive wheel is flogged out due to a fair amount of abuse at some time. Whilst with the bent key and set screw in place the wheel will run true once the set screw is loosened the wheel is very wobbly. This is a problem for the tyre guy thus am going to have to get someone with more capability than me to bush the bore for me.

Says he has and at that price I willing to give it a go. I am pretty sure the rubber will be stuck to the wheels.

They do re-rubbering of castors and the like, used to work just down the street from them. They've been around for a long time, from memory I think they were BTR back then.

I picked up.my wheels last Thursday and they look to be good at first sight. I need to spin them up to see how concentric they are but when I was dropping them off they were grinding a recently rerubbered conveyor head drum.IMG_20181213_125420-3.jpg
