    Default Precision Grinding Unimac

Has anybody got a Unimac made by Precision Grinding in Adelaide? I am interested to know how useful people find them. I have the possibility of owning one with a lot of associated memorabilia but no tooling other than an optional slotting head. Not even a chuck.IMG_20181121_215214.jpgIMG_20181121_215051.jpgIMG_20181121_215156.jpgIMG_20181121_215135.jpg

Hopefully the associated memorabilia will have some drawings to work from when you come to make the bits.
I see it as a general purpose Tool and Cutter grinder, which had extra accessories.
What sort of Dollars is the asking price, as that will be a big decider on whether it'll be of use or not, and are you prepared to undertake a major build of components?

    Kryn,

It was made by Precision Grinding but isn't a grinder of any sort. It a combined lathe, horizontal/vertical mill, horizontal borer, slotter. It has 3 linear axis and two rotary ones. I like that fact it was made very locally a lot and that in itself almost warrants shed space. I am just seeing if there is anybody who has owned/used one that can give me an opinion. It has the same thread on the spindle nose as a Hercus 9" So faceplates and chucks will be easy to get. It comes with the original cabinet which is made out of 2mm plate and weighs 100kg. The machine itself weighs about 220kg so there is plenty of cast iron in it. Also it is probably the only machine I will have brought home in years that i could just plug in and use. It also comes with a full set of drawings for a bunch of accessories.

Very nice ! A useful acquisition. I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at it.

I have had some work done by precision grinding, super nice guys. I didn't know they made that cool thing.

If you have the space I would take it in a heartbeat.

I have agreed to take it. It is just too cool not to and I like a locally made machine. There should be something like food miles but for machinery so I can feel extra virtuous. These where made in the late 70's early 80's Now I seriously have to get rid of some other machines. By Christmas I will have let 4 new ones in but not gotten rid of any of the duplicates or redundant machinery.

    Default Great Find well done

Looks like a great tool, why did they stop making them ? I've read about another thing called a metalmaster on the UK forums that combined some of that functionality but it disappeared as well.

They used to get a government bonus of $1500 for each unit they made. That came to an end.

    Kryn,

The idea of disposing of them would be to move them out of my shed
