Not to mention breaking expensive parts at inconvenient times/places.
The 3 worst vehicles I've ever owned were UK made/designed. A Land Rover Series 3, a Mini and a Range Rover. At least the Landie was relatively easy to work on - I could have the gearbox out and on the bench in pieces within 40 minutes of starting on it. Practice speeds things up enormously.

Ha ha, yes I also had Series 3 Land Rover when I lived in Arhnemland. Fortunately the totally crap original engine had been replaced with an almost as tragic Holden engine so I didn't need to contend with all the usual drama that end of the bargain normally provided. It still couldn't manage to climb so much as an ant hill without overheating or otherwise pooping itself. Don't get me started on the Prince of Darkness electrics Lucas - Prince of Darkness - Lucas Electrical Humor Jokes
Yes 3 of the biggest POS cars I've owned or at least driven:
3. Land Rover Series 3. The only reason it's not higher up was the use of aluminium. Never mind the modern iPhone "find a friend" feature. Everyone could find me just by following the oil leaks on the road around town!
2. Cadillac DeVille Series 8. The only car where the designers connected the engine to the fuel gauge instead of the transmission. Push the "gas pedal" and the fuel gauge went down. Nothing else happened, the fuel gauge just dropped a notch. Pretty much everything else (of which the list was long and heavy) in the car didn't work as expected. Bonus point for the brake rotors warping on any decline greater than the curvature of the earth. Runner up would be just about any other American car ever made in the history of mankind.
1. First place has to go to the Citroen 2CV, my wheels when I lived in Germany. Unlike the Caddy, at least you knew from the outset the 2CV was going to be a piece of crap, something, and about the only thing, it excelled at. Designed by a company with a name unkindly similar to a piece of yellow fruit featured by all on the list, the giveaway is the entire design objective was to transport eggs across a ploughed field without breaking any. Unfortunately that's not something I got to test, but what I did test was plenty of Autobahn driving and with trucks speed limited to 100 kph and the Lemon capable of only 105 kph on a good day, overtaking manoeuvres took years off my life expectancy! Touch and go between the 2CV and the Caddy, as at least the former was cheap and reliable ... not that there was much to break. Nevertheless it's first place thanks to being a clear winner on the worst car to drive ever designed, by a country basket of eggs. Unbroken, of course.

If you have a rep, I've found they'll often give you an insert to try. The ceramics are god's gift for hard material, pity about the $300 for a box......if you don't do anything stupid you can make 1 last a long, long time. I usually make a quick fixture to hold gears/sprockets too, so everything bares the force rather than just a few points at the jaws.
