    Hi Tom,

Sorry to be a pain but you seem to be the only person on the internet with HAMATU manual, any luck finding it?

Hey Guys, does anybody know how change gears are spec'ed on HAMATU lathe?

Is it mod 1 or something? I'm missing some gears for imperial thread cutting.

I also have weird issue with metric thread cutting. When I setup the lathe for 1.25 pitch it actually outputs 19g which is close but not close enough to put a nut on.
Where should I look to pin point this behavior?

    Hope somebody can help.

    Hi KYP,
you don't say whether your lead screw is metric or imperial. Mine is imperial ,4TPI and the gear train to cut imperial threads are:upper gear48,driving 127 which drives 71 which drives 38 on the lowest gear. Probably the gearbox input shaft.I haven't mastered the art of posting photos from my phone to this blog yet .When I do Iwill post photos of my lathe

    Default gear train

Hi KYP,my gear train which in conjunction with a 4 TPI leadscrew is:48Tdriving127T which drives38T which is mounted on the lowest shaft .Seems to be the feed gearbox shaft.

so, it is 4tpi lead screw. and according to the chart it is 48->127-105->84 gear box setup for metric threads. The lever position on the chart shows No.4 for 1.25mm pitch but in that position the thread is off. I have found it works to a spec if I move lever to # on the chart - 1 so 3. Same for 1.5mm pitch it is 5 instead of 6. It doesn't look like the access to the lead screw gearbox is easy. I wonder what can be wrong. I really like the lathe and want it to work by the book.

Maybe pop up a photo of your geartrain and the manual page?

Hi KYP,looking at the chart on the lathe,to cut a metric 1.25 thread, set the machine on: 1 which is the gear train you mentioned: 4.
You never mentioned Lever 1 or Lever C.

Those are also set as per chart. The Lever position is the only difference.

maybe engage half nuts, set up dial indicator and turn lathe by hand 1 revolution and measure travel.Compare to chart on lathe and see where you are.
