Are chuck jaws any good?
I have two different sized sets of 3 jaw chuck jaws with no chuck body. Are disembodied jaws any good, do they need to go with the original chuck?
Is it worth grinding the jaws to make them work these days?…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

I would say theyre worth keeping, if youre happy to hunt for a matching body. I run plenty of chucks at work that no longer have matching bodies and jaw sets. As long as the jaws all share the same serial numbers, they should be pretty close to clamping concentrically. If its a three jaw set, then theyre perfectly serviceable because a 3 jaw isnt really going to be the gold standard of repeatable accurate workholding. If its a 4 jaw set, theyre going to have to be pretty horrific to be of no use.
If the serials dont match...I cant say id bother. To regrind it into a truly useful set would be some pretty aggressive work.

I picked up a set of chuck 3 jaws with a face plate and 4 jaw. Evidently the guy sold the Chinese lathe without them?
They fitted my 3 jaw 100% perfectly, so one day I'll machine them into being 2 piece jaws which I've always wanted.Using Tapatalk
