BobL, what is that downfeed damper from (or originally for)? Is it hydraulic or air/gas?

I discovered a crack in the casting. It's going back on Monday. Very annoying. I'm actually very unimpressed with the quality of the castings generally. They are the worst I've ever seen on a machine. Makes me wonder whether it really was made in Taiwan. Have a look and let me know what you think.

They usually bog them up with some kind of white putty to cover these areas.
With that crack I'd be taking it back as well.Using Tapatalk

Chris, That's a right PITA.
It looks like the crack may might have happened when someone adjusted the position of blade guide holder and probably because the casting was not straight tightening the bolt started the crack. Either way it should not have happened.
It does make you wonder sometimes what these machines a made of.

Hi Chris,
I am very sorry to hear of this. I have been told privately by people in some very big companies that they not buy from Hafco as they deal in "seconds".
What happened to me and now you, confirms my opinion about them.
It would appear that there are little or no inspection or quality assurance protocols in place.
When I first arrived in Mackay 24 years ago I purchased a vertical bandsaw from hafco.
When I unpacked it, the top wheel pulley casting that guided the sliding arm saw guide was about 20 degrees out of parallel.
The top pulley was also nearly 4mm out circularity. The pulley could not be skimmed as it would not have enough meat on one side of the pulley.
Hafco wanted me to post the whole saw back at my cost. I refused and rebuilt the pulley and the pulley arm out of-of steel.
My BS4A came out of the box in the same state as yours leaving me to de-snag the casting slots as presented in pic 5. Apart from looking much better the mechanical operation is heaps better to move pivots and moving bearing arm slides.
Hopefully, things will have changed for you in dealing with this company.

That's a worry. I'm now wondering if I should just ask for a refund. I'll certainly be having a good look at any replacement saw before it leaves the warehouse. I'm happy to do some fettling, but I can't deal with cracked castings.
I've spoken to Rob at H&F and emailed him a photo. Will let you know what happens.Chris

I returned 2x HM52 mills before they finally changed manufacturers and I got a HM52B.
Even then I was asked to come and inspect the 3 mills in the there Warehouse. I picked one after extensive measuring of the there tolarences (there supposed to have) but would not have taken either of the others home.
The one I picked had a crappy bog and paint work, but was accurate. The 2 others looked pretty but where out of spec in so many ways.
I've never bought one, but Gasweld sell a similar saw. My son bought one for his work and other than adjustment it was fine.Using Tapatalk

Thanks Dave. I had a look online at the Gasweld one. Seems to be of the same standard as the Hafco.
I saw this on Gumtree if anyone is interested. He's advertising it as new. Looks bloody old to me. I won't bother with it, because I reckon H&F are going to give me a replacement, not a refund, and I don't want two saws. It's close to me too. Wish I'd looked at Gumtree first!

I bought mine many years ago, it was a garage sale advertised as a power hacksaw saw in the paper, turned up late, said about my disappointment about it not being a power hack saw, so they dropped the price to $100 from $150 as it hadn't sold.
Best investment ever, old school quality bandsaw. Even though it's Chinese, it's so much better than today's Chinese machines. Back when the Chinese actually competed to be in the market, now they have taken over they know we will buy there rubbish.
I hope everything sorts itself for you at MH and you end up happy with a saw your happy with.Using Tapatalk

Are you saying the Chinese have dropped there game, I thought they have gotten better. I think it is hit and miss with them to be honest.
Maybe this is the reason H & F have these sales all the time, to dispose of all the rejects.
When they get yours back they will probably bog it up and sell it at the next sale.
