Default Japanese second hand tools market

SIDEWAYS PHOTO ALERT !!! DO NOT COMPLAIN !!

We are about four days into a drive from Tokyo to Sapporo and back and we drove past this insane looking place in Akita. The parking lot was packed full of agricultural stuff and broken machinery. I went in and it was amazing, shelves and shelves of old musty used tools.

I have attached some random photos, there wasn't much metalworking machinery but a lot of woodworking and agricultural gear, with some very reasonable prices. It's about 74 yen to the dollar ATM.

There were probably 5 to 6 hundred used circular saws and electric planers in boxes, rows of old theodolites, pumps, small motors oxy equipment it just went on and on. That was only the first floor, the second was all used motorbikes and rice and vegetable harvesting get, mostly Kubota and Yanmar.

Third floor was all random op shop type stuff and audio gear.

I got a nice Riken .01mm in one meter box level, two mitutoyo bore guage sets covering 35mm to 200mm, two dial guages and 20 assorted unused natchi OG drills for 10200 yen ($125) so I am stoked. All the stuff I bought had been long sitting in a corner and they were surprised I was buying it.

New drills were all $3 each and end mills $5 to $7 each if only I had more luggage

Some kind of compression or tension gauge, max force was 100kg so I'm not sure what it would be for.

    Loose drills and end mills

    IMG_20181022_163526.jpg

    IMG_20181022_163519.jpg
Used tyres and wheels, these were some of the priciest things in the joint.

    IMG_20181022_162828.jpg

This odd machine had a big head which moved up and down relative to the vice with 4 seperate saw spindles in a T shape, I think for putting a big tenon on the end of posts.

This 9 inch angle grinder was kind of frankenstined onto a jack for some sort of madness.

Some very serious mill vices. Most kitagawa branded all under $100

The green cash box in the photo. These are great! Many of them have a bell/buzzer in them which goes off when picked up so you know if someone is trying to run off with your money. Idea for market stalls etc.

What, you couldn't find a suitcase in that place???
You could always dump the clothes, and get more when you get home. I have an idea someone else on the forum did that. Prices like that you'll never see here.
Enjoy the trip, is it work or pleasure??

    What a gold mine.
We spent 3 weeks in Hokkaido in June and the advice we got was to come back in autumn (now(.
So good choice for your trip.
    Its an awesomely beautiful country.
I thought South Island New Zealand had to be my pick for beautiful, but Hokkaido trumped it. And the fishing was awesome
