Default Sieg SC4 lathe: how to lock the spindle

I've only had my SC4 lathe for a short while, but the thing that is starting to annoy me is how to stop the spindle from rotating when I am removing or replacing the chuck (which is held in place by three hex head bolts).

So far I've been able to hold the spindle steady using a variety of tools (that I'd normally call "an old chisel", or "a spanner" or even "a stick" ) but it's always been a bit hit-and-miss. I was expecting to be able to just press a spindle-lock button, but no such button exists on the SC4.

Is there a special tool that I could be using?

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Hi Andrew, there is no actual tool to help remove the chuck. What you could make is an indexing tool, which if made strong enough, should be sufficient to hold the spindle steady enough to undo the chuck. Can also be used for indexing!!!!
    Here's a link for one.

    Hope this helps.

Maybe you could clamp a big Allen key in the chuck, so the long leg butts against the bed?
Some plastic hose on the key to protect bed?

Thanks to all for your help with this...especially xynudu who made a short youtube video explaining some of the options https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcyD4axD3Yg (thanks Rob, very much appreciated).
In the end I bought one of these jobbies - a 51-120mm C spanner - which works like a charm on both the 3-jaw and the collet chuck

Cost about 20 bucks (AUD) but worth it.

    Cheers,
    Andrew.
