    Default Anyone got a 1/4-26 tpi die to loan? Cuppa tea and a sandwich?

    Hi all,

    <holding cap out>

    The basket case Eclipse mag chuck shown here:

    //metalworkforums.com/f65/t1997...40#post1919640

    is almost back into operation. I have made a handle and eccentric rod and stuff for it and got it re-zapped at magfield in Tullamarine and it is now backed to its full strength minty flavour.

    One of the screws that holds it together is slightly damaged and won't go back in and wants a lick to clean it up. The buggers are 1/4" 26 tpi. 60 degrees (erm) no doubt.

    My thread files don't have 26 tpi. ... so before I try to ruin the screw in the lathe to fix it, anybody got a 1/4-26 die to loan to help get a 1920's mag chuck nipped up and back to completeness?

    Many thanks,

    Greg.

    Maybe the world fastest retraction ...

    I just realised I have some misc BSW and BSF dies and so went rummaging .. and what do you know? I have a BSF 1/4-26 and that is quite enough to clean up the thread.

    Job done.

    Apols all!

    Glad to hear that you managed to find a die to suit.
    If you don't mind my asking, what did it cost to get re-zapped, PLEASE? Just incase mine needs it at some stage.

    Hi Kryn,

    It cost $130. He wanted a day's notice rather just turn up. He said to leave it with him for an hour and, indeed, an hour later it was done. He doesn't carry spare parts but can sometimes get them from Eclipse.

    Greg.
