Linked belt
Just fitted a B \ 5L size linked belt on my Sheraton 9 lathe.
The belt width measures around .650" it sits high in the pulley grooves
I had a automotive style belt fitted which was a compromise, it was noisy and vibrated,
The linked belt is quieter no doubt but dissapointingly it isn't completely vibration free.
Been playing with speeds , the belt seems to whip up/down at all speeds. With use, it might become smoother.

Hi Guys,
Could it be a wear ridge ? I've seen pulleys with a slightly raised area a few mm from the rim, presumably from a worn or too small a belt.Best Regards:

I have just become the custodian of a fairly well used Sheraton 9. I haven't had a chance to put the rear drive back together yet and run it but the belt is a leather/fibre B section. It might take a day or to as weekdays are pretty crazy for me with work and kids but I can take some photos / measurements of the pulleys on mine if you want?
As BaronJ has suggested maybe it's a wear ridge and if it's been run for a long time with the wrong section belt that may be the case. Maybe it's worth cutting a B section groove profile out of thin material and doing a comparison?

How close to .665" does the belt measure on the outer edge?

Hi Guys,
Looking at that picture, I agree they look to be machined. Not at all looking like the wear marks that I referred to earlier.Best Regards:
