    Default Parkanson Power Hacksaw Oils

A while ago I acquired an old Parkanson 6"×6" 3 phase power hacksaw. After a bit of tinkering, new pulley for the coolant pump, some castors for moving it around and a few new belts I have got it running well and cutting straight. It now just needs a good clean and some coolant and it's good to go. One bit of info I have not been able to locate is what type of oil to use to lubricate the various slide and rotating mechanisms. The model plate mentions that only Caltex Rando G oil should used, and as far as my Googling has gone I can't find any details on the old Caltex lubricants and what the modern equivalents would be. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Not saying it's the right stuff to use, but in mine I'm using ATF in the hydraulic pump, way oil in the oiler on the eccentric for the pump and grease in the ways for the saw frame.
The ways in mine are quite worn so I wanted something thick that was going to stay there, otherwise I'd just use the way oil.

I have one I bought off Bollie and never got it going (yet). Any oil is good oil, as far as grade I'd use hydraulic oil.

Caltex should have a technical helpline for lubricants. if you give them a call they should be able to give you a modern equivalent of that oil.

Sorry to jump on your thread but.......

I have a Parkanson 6"x6" power hacksaw that is very similar to the one pictured on this thread. Mine has a squared off box for the base and the cover over the slides is also squared off. It has a date tag saying 1927!

I want to pull it apart to clean, paint and service as it is filthy. Does anybody have any service or repair information on these?? I don't really know where to start with the strip down and to be honest am a little worried of having left over parts after the rebuild!!!

Default Parkanson 8"x 8" Power Hacksaw

Hi all, I have a beautiful old Parkanson model 18671 that I am restoring.
I have restored all electrics, put new castors and new oil. The machine turns over beautifully (horizontally) but it will not go up and down (vertically). I can lift it manually so its not rusted in. I guess I need to rebuild the hydraulic parts. I am in desperate need of a service manual to do this and I am willing to pay a reasonable price (or above average) for a manual or a copy of a manual.

I am desperate guys.....someone must have one !!

    Regards,
    Steve in Sydney Australia

If it’s similar to the one I had, the hydraulics are very simple.
The piston on the crank lifts the ram on the return stroke, it basically just goes in and out causing the main lift piston to raise a bit then come down again. and there’s no valving to allow it to actually pump up.
The needle valve controls the overall lowering rate.
There’s a ball check valve on the bottom of the cylinder that allows you to manually lift the piston.
You lift the arm high enough for the blade to clear the work.
If you close the valve completely and start the saw the arm will lift up slightly with each return stroke, but overall will not lower.
Open the valve to control that lowering rate and hence the cut rate.

An inquiry to Parkanson might glean more information.

Hacksaw3.jpgHacksaw4.jpgI had a 6 X 6 Parkanson myself which I sold to my old Boss after I bought a large Horizontal Bandsaw. I'm pretty sure from memory that I used ISO 46 Hydraulic oil in the Hydraulics. Though the tag on the machine had Golden Fleece Purol HL32 marked on it. I used ISO 68 Slideway oil for for the sliding parts. Unless the machine has very little wear then ISO 32 would probably be ok, but otherwise I would be using 46 or 68 Hydraulic oil. I tried searching for a manual several times all to no avail. I even spoke to https://www.capitalmachinery.com.au/ who bought Parkanson but had no luck.
Here is a link to a previous thread which has some info that might be of some use to people https://metalworkforums.com/f65/t117...-power-hacksaw STOP 1.jpgSTOP 1.jpg The picture of the metal rod which has a 'U' shape at one end is a length stop which I was lent by a friend who the exact same saw to copy from, but I didn't get it around to it. The length stop fits the 6 X 6 that we both had. I still have the length stop if anyone wanted dimensions.
NOTE: I don't know why the length stop picture got uploaded twice.

A heads up for our members.
I have contacted Newlo by email twice in the last few days.

It doesn't usually work out well when new guys reply to old posts.

Newlo was advised by emails to post a fresh post as that would present the enquiry in the current time frame.

So far no reply. Maybe he has opted to do something else.
