Default source for quality lathe and milling cutters

I'm looking for a supplier of decent quality lathe and milling machine tooling. I'd rather go a step above the Chinese Ebay stuff. I also need a supplier that sells to individuals. a web browse showed up:

MILLING TOOLS (CNC & Turret/Universal Mills) - Millers Tooling, Brisbane, Australia
looks like they do a range of quality options.

metal cutting technology - importers, wholesalers and manufacturers - mitsubishi carbide - quaker- vargus - azstar - drilling - milling - turning - end milling
nice stuff but not sure if they would sell to the hobbyist.

    https://www.cutting-edge.net.au/
?Chinese stuff as they don't say otherwise.

    Any suggestions?
I'm not opposed to Chinese goods if anyone knows any quality ones... that's not been my life experience though.

They don't refer you to a distributor list so email them and ask for a price list.

    cheers, shed

Have a look at Carbitool for endmills. Their woodworking stuff is on par with the Germans for a lot less money, I can't imagine why their metalworking range would be any different.

As a bonus, you'll be supporting local manufacturing as well.

    Thanks guys for your replies.

dodgeat4: sounds good but I doubt I'd do a good job at regrinding them.

I rang the first two businesses if anyone is interested in this topic....

"Metal Cutting Technology" is in Sydney and they will do small sales to individuals. They seem to do only respected brands. There is no price list, you have to email them with your specific enquiry to get pricing. Interestingly, the brand "Azstar" is Australian made.

"Millers Tooling" is in Brisbane and they seem to carry a range from Chinese through Taiwanese and Korean up to European cutters. Their main brand is TaeguTec which I understand is Korean.

With regards to milling cutters, all my end mills are chinese. Originally I was buying from CTC Tools but since they shifted their base from HK it has become too hard to deal with them. Since then I have been buying all my end mills through Aliexpress and have not been disappointed. Lately I have been buying all solid carbide. On Aliexpress the sellers normally advertise the specs for their product, something that does not seem to happen on Ebay. It's a case of sifting through all the offerings for the particular cutter you want, and then making a choice, usually but not always dependent on price alone. I have been happy with all the cutters I have bought to date.

    Hi Guys,

Most of the cutters I have, are either salvaged from the scrap yard or scrounged from some of the engineering places I visit.

I have no problem regrinding the ends of two and four flute cutters, my main problem is sharpening the flutes ! It seems that it is always the bottom half inch or so that gets worn and blunt. I did once cut the bottom off a cutter and reground the end, and that worked well. At least well enough for me to finish the job I was doing at the time.

I did get given a box of new cutters in exchange for a repair I did, not used them yet though ! Its like a trophy, sitting proudly in the cupboard, announcing themselves.

Otherwise I buy Chinese tools ! So far I've been quite satisfied, but definitely not Ebay. Aliexpress and Banggood yes.
    Best Regards:
    Baron J.
