Digital caliper inaccuracy????
I have a genuine (bought from H&F) Mitutoyo 6" digital caliper. Its a few years old but little used. Investigating discrepancies between micrometer and caliper readings on a job today revealed that the caliper has become inaccurate. It measures the 25mm zero setting thingy for my 25 to 50 mm micrometer as 24.97 mm. Interestingly, my cheap calipers measure it at 25mm exactly.
Is there anything I can do to reclaim this caliper? Can it be recalibrated? Thanks in advance for any solutions.

If you close the jaws and hold it up to the light you may see a slight gap between the measuring faces caused by a slight burr on the very tips of the jaws. A fine slip stone can be used to remove any raised material.

There should be a button the caliper body to reset the caliper when the jaws are closed. You need to hold it in for a few seconds from memory.
However, a typical digital caliper is only usually quoted as accurate to within 0.05mm, and you are within that. If you need better accuracy then you should be measuring with a micrometer...

Yeah, there's generally a Zero button for you to reset it. I recently checked my old TESA digital against the gauge block set at work and it was showing an error of up to 0.02mm on some sizes, but perfect on others.
One of the reasons I like analogue over digital is that a physical scale is set pretty much permanently, you don't have to worry about weird encoder glitches
