Default How I move heavy machinery

I sold my BM30 Mill and needed to shift it from the back shed to the curb so that a truck with a hiab could finish the relocation.
I used my steel skids that have large cast iron and poly rated at 500kg each. The large diam wheels can handle bumbs like exiting the shed and running onto the concrete apron of the carport - ie changes in levels.
Easy to push around where you want it and to load it on the skids a crowbar was used.

Hi Rod, any chance of some pics of your trolley, PLEASE? It's a bit hard to see it under the mill.
    Thanks

    Hi Dave,
Nothing new and I am selling all my gear - wife passed a month ago and I need to change things. I haven't advertised but it is moving by word of mouth quite quickly. All the CNC machinery has gone but I still have lots of bar stock in ally, brass and steel if anyone is interested in turning. Also lots of ally plate up to 50mm thick and lots of carbide cutters for CNC.
I am not having a garage sale or going to ship anything so it would have to be local buyers.

    Hi Kryn,
The fellow that bought the mill has borrowed the skids to move the mill at his end. When I get them back I will take a photo and post.
    Cheers,
    Rod

I used a pallet jack to move my mill around which is 1100kg no problem. When we tried to move the 1700kg grinder 2 of us needed to push it.

Pallet jacks can be scored pretty cheap on gumtree sometimes. I got mine for $90 best investment ever.

Around 15 years ago I scored a near new one for $150 through a truck driving mate of mine where a company was closing, then a couple of years later he turned up with a skinny type one.
The handle had a bump and it leaks down overnight so the company was throwing it away.

I couldn't do without either of of them, it's like a bandsaw, once you have one you don't know how you did without it.

I've moved a 3800 kg HBM on a pallet jack and a couple of machinery skates. Also a 3200 kg planer. Pallet jack is rated to 2500 kg but can do a bit more - if it has to. Just make sure you know where your feet are.

Anything the size of a B/port mill or smaller doesn't qualify as 'heavy' in my shed....

Firstly, I'm very sorry to hear of your recent loss Rod. I have no words which will offer much relief from the pain you will be feeling, but none the less, I hope that with the passing of time, the emptiness and hurt diminish somewhat and you are able to look back to the happier times and memories. I really hope that you have plenty of loving family and friends around you, they will be a great comfort if so and as others have said, I hope that the days ahead are brighter and sunnier than the recent past.

As for you PDW, I give up, what the hell is FKT?

We had eight months notice that there was no cure so I sort of prepared myself as best I could. I am kitting the car out and travelling for a while to transition into something - not sure what that is yet but it will be nothing like what I used to do.
Fortunately for me my son has moved back home and will be travelling with me.

This thread was put up to show how I do this sort of thing. Good to see there are other ideas out there. I have conserns about the small diameter wheels of the pallet jack which would make it difficult to climb over variations in terrain. Also three wheels would never be as stable as four and the likely pulling motion on the jack means the operator walks backwards.. Having said that I haven't used a pallet jack so I might be talking rubbish too. As for exceeding the recommended capacity of the pallet jack by about 30% those suggestions should be kept quiet on a public forum.
    Cheers,
    Rod

The big wheels go over easy, the smaller ones not so much, but you can lower it and reposition the smaller wheels over the bump and move on.
As for stability the pretty good, as long as the load is even over the smaller wheels.

Good luck in your travels, I really hope you have a great time with your son.
I have had a change of life a few times in the past 6 years, so can sort of understand big life changes.
