I've got a Meco (?) gun that takes a spool of zinc wire, feeds it into a nozzle and uses oxy-acetylene plus compressed air to form a molten metal spray. Used to be common for zinc-spraying boat hulls after sand blasting to white metal.
I've never used the thing - the amount of gas it goes through is phenomenal. One of these days I must stick it on eBay to see if anyone else has a 'need' for one.....

I wish I had an IR gun at the time, I had to use temperature crayons.
The gun I used is the exact same gun Abom used, a Eutectic Castolin Rototec. The powders came in hardened, Stainless, brass and ordinary steel.
My gun sat under the bench for years then suddenly disappeared, dammit. Their Eutalloy gun was great for building up flat surfaces and welding cast iron together.
I miss the good old days.
Great job on the shaft by the way.
