    Default zinc plated metric bolts

I can't seem to be able to find these at any hardware stores. I have a particular project where I formerly used zinc plated 3/8th hex and cup headed bolts but have changed to 10mm metric. While there are plenty of hot galvanised metric bolts available on the shelves I haven't been able to find nice shiny ones. What's the story? Will I have to go to stainless?

You'll have to go to a bolt and nut supplier. Hardwares only supply gal metric and zinc imperial form some reason now. Bunning's do have packs of zinc bolts and nuts but you'll pay through the nose. I think the packaging costs more than the bolts.

I think hardware stores stock different plating to prevent stock getting mixed up. I recommend bolt dot com dot au. You can order for pickup or get delivery.

Nuts and bolts online are another supplier.
I think there postage policy is over $99 and it's free postage.
If you type nuts and bolts online Australia Into Google others will show up as well

It is probably because the zinc plates ones are not worth a cracker as the coating is that thin they rust within a short time.

It's because all bolts specified for building applications are metric. The Building Code of Australia and engineering drawings will specify metric sizes. In many applications they mast be gal for durability and I guess it's easier to stock metric in gal only.

The zinc plated bolts I get from Searles fasteners do pretty well outside as far as rust goes. Their black bolts also seem to rust less than stuff from hardware store as well.
