    Hi Bollie,

I was going to make a two part table vise similar to that at one time. I did find some plans on the internet and copied them. They are somewhere on my computer. If I can find them I'll post them if anyone is interested.
    Best Regards:

I have been thinking about getting one of these, not sure of the quality though, I believe it is the ang-lock type. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Precisio...IAAOSwtnpaIgle
If your planning to buy from Mag-Pro may want to buy from them direct instead of through Ebay, I am yet to buy from them but remember something about them having a fall out with Ebay and closed the Ebay store completely when they launched their own website. They do appear to have opened their ebay store again.

Some people imported a Glacern vice over in the woodworking forums - Importing a Glacern Mill Vise

I was thinking of doing that, worked out at like $300 each. A bit more now I guess with the dollar being down

I wanted to buy a couple of D1-3 backplates from them and found the freight/postage was something like $50 each. Now I know that's ridiculously high as I can post an 11kg straight edge half way across Australia for $29. A backplate, even 2, should fit into a postpack bag for about $17.

So I gave up on the idea. I passed through Melbourne last week but didn't have time to go shopping in person.

Besides, the truck was already full. Very full.....

I picked up some gear from them for another forumite for that very reason, the postage costs were a bit over the top.
I suppose they charge for the picking, packaging, postage, so then it does add up.
Maybe someone who lives close by, could pick and post it for you?? I'd do it for you, but I'm not allowed another "Holiday" for some time!!!!

I received a reply to my email regarding if its an angle lock type and apparently it is. Also given a rough freight cost of $40 which might be a bit on the light side.
So has anyone got one of these who can tell me their thoughts regarding it

It would be nice to know if the H&F Vertex is $190 better

I've got one. It's the only machine vice I've got so nothing really to compare it with but it works well and I'm happy with it.
Minor issues were that the ground edges were very sharp until Touched them up with a file/stone, and the clamp bolts could do with being a fraction longer with better washers.

Have a look at these from a Australian website.
I don't know about thier quality but they seem to have have a good range.

This one looks good, just no swivel base. How often would a swivel base get used though?

Someone should buy one of these https://www.ausee.com.au/shop/category.aspx?catid=8403 and report back. If it is as good as it looks I'll buy one. Looks like it could double as a grinding vice.
I have two of the vertex 'K' type 6" vices. The only good thing about this is that I can hold long parts with similar lack of precision at each end. I seriously considered buying a Kurt D6 through amazon if I could get it here under $1k which I could not.

Yeah that is the one I meant, I forgot to put the link there. What do you think about the lack of swivel base?

Depending on the mill you have, the amount you will use a swivel base will be somewhere between almost never and not ever ever ever.

Swivel bases are really, really good if you want to pointlessly reduce your Z axis space and have another movable joint to lower rigidity.

You also get to compound inaccuracies.
