I must admit, my control of the scraper tool isn't consistent . my scrape marks are not geometrically neat. Yes, am stoning between scrapes. Will post more pics tmw.

This piece of iron was relatively flat before I did the scraping . I'm still struggling with placing the scraped lines in line next to each other , my strokes tend to wander all over the place , a lack of control

Do you change your scrapeing direction each cycle as in scrape in one direction, blue up and then scrape at 90 degrees to previous direction? If not then you will end up with hollows.

Looking at your scrapeing pattern, it does look a little erratic.

After a few cycles you should have more of a consistent cross hatch of scraper marks.

Edit: some of your scrapeing marks look really long, almost like frosting but this is usually done at the end, if at all.

I think not long ago tom lipton posted some videos using water based artists paint as a substitute for dykem hi-spot, looked like a good alternative to me!

Push the scraper with your body not your hands.

These videos of people using a scraper with a file type handle, it is a wonder they get any material off.

Is there any reason why the scraper shank is so long ? Seems excessively long but I guess that's why RC said to use ur body , not hand. Might try a larger radius , 80 mm .

Did anybody ever write down and summarise the stuff we learned while doing the scraper courses with Machtool a few years ago - there are various threads about the courses and various websites / videos listed in those threads which may be worth a trawl through.

This is interesting but he does talk a lot rather than show how to do stuff. Note the reference to aqua wash'' that he uses as the spotting dye.

Are you still blaming Dykem for your inconsistent spotting?

    Default Chattering

Now I'm having issues with the tool chattering. The blade edge is slightly rough , looking at it with the x50 loupe .

Getting more consistent results now, I found that I had too much blue on the plate.

OK things are looking better. Stefan G didn't mention an important and necessary tip in his utube blurb: I have found by trial and lots of error , that it's important to hone the blade edge . After hand polishing the blade edge over the 3000 grit diamond , the edge is now looking much better and it now scrapes without chattering. Now I need to practice more .

Not sure which of his scraping videos you've watched, but if you go to 10:30 in this one he talks about the 3000grit diamond he's got on his grinder and shows how he sharpens.

Hi yes but part 1 is where he explains his sharpening method and he omits the crucial honing requirement
