Thumbs up Things that get scrapped !

    Hi Guys,

Been nosing around the scrap yard again ! That nice man had put this motor on one side for me, he knows I like motors.

Brand new still in its Styrofoam packing and plastic bag.
Its a 1Hp single phase induction motor. It has a bag of fittings with it which is nice. The motor mounting clamps are there along with three multi grove belt pulleys, a tolerance ring and fitting tool. I've seen similar motors on tumble dryers, where a great big multi "V" belt wraps right around the drum and this motor provides the drive. The motor works fine and runs at 2850 rpm. The date on the box was 1992. I didn't bother bringing the box or Styrofoam packaging home. For a motor that has sat in its packaging for over 25 years, its in great shape.

Now I need to find a suitable mounting cradle for it.
    Best Regards:
    Baron J.

Nice find, all I find at my scrappy is crap. Nothing of any use.

    Hi Guys,

It helps when you have known each other for 40 years or more ! And crossing his palm with a few shekels now and again.

I can't think of any scrapyards in Sydney or its outer surrounds that let you nose around. There was one in Round Corner Dural about 20 years ago (or he might of been a second hand/agricultural equipment seller - it looked like a scrapyard to me back then) I think.

I went to a scrap yard when I first settled here, bugger wouldn't let me walk around, said it was unsafe. He obviously hasn't seen my workshop!

    Hi Guys,

Yes I've heard that excuse as well ! Its all about being afraid of the liability issues.

One of the places that I go to to scrounge odd bits, won't let me wander around or rummage in the scrap without being accompanied, even then if I spot something that I want I'm not allowed to get it for myself, my minder has to get it for me. Even then I can't carry it out, off the premises, its is handed to me at the yard gate.

Ten even five years ago, it would have been normal to just nose around.

A gas or oil heating furnace here would have a frame that would clamp to the rubber mount at each end of the motor that belt drives the fan. Like the one in the link below.
