I have heard of people using a circular saw with a fibre blade, supposedly quite accurate!

Hafco - I am strongly inclined to never buy anything from them again. What I have from them gave nothing but problems, which I had to fix. This includes the bandsaw (which can and does hold round tubing).
Blades: yeah, you can use carbon steel, but I find the bimetal blades much, much better. I get mine from Henry Brothers at Vinyard, NSW. I also get very good advice from them.
Cheers
Roger

Bandsaw wins everytime.
SimonGirl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

I overlooked mentioning an important advantage of a horizontal bandsaw over a vertical one. On the vertical, the maximum length you can cut off (square) is equal to the wheel diameter. A horizontal saw can cut any length off. The penalty is the twist in the blade, which will no doubt have an effect on blade life. The "height" of the section able to be cut off is limited on the horizontal machine, but I've rarely found this to be an issue.
Of course, the full solution is to own both types.
Graham.
