Sheraton SG
After several years in storage, (I can't really remember when I bought it), I got around to picking it up.
It's a model H-193, and am wondering if anyone has one, a manual on it or any other information, please?
Main thing I need to know, is the size of the motor Kw and revs, the driving and driven size of the pulleys, and how the motor is mounted, please.
Have looked on Google, but can't really see how it's set up?
Thanks in Advance,

When I saw it Kryn it reminded me of the small Macson grinders:
To some degree, I wonder if one might be a copy of the other. They are likely from the same era I guess.
Macson Miniature Grinder
Some details on motor/rpm/speeds there.
Greg.
Edit: Though, looking at the mascon pics there are quite some differences, but the layout is similar. Shame the lathes.co.uk site doesn't show the pulley arrangement. As an aside, about two years ago I went to an auction hoping to win one of those macson jobbies. It was one of three SGs on auction that day. The lot for the grinding wheels came up before the grinders. I won that lot. So I bagged a barrow-load of wheels for $30, but didn't win the grinder! And I still have nothing to use them on! )

Spindle RPM is dictated by the maximum wheel speed, so start with the size wheel that you will be using (probably a 150 or 180mm diameter wheel?) and work backwards. you don't want too dramatic a difference in pulley sizes as a really small one requires the belt to flex a lot, so as large as possible. Motor is either going to be 1440rpm or 2880prm. For a unit that size kW will probably be 500W plus or minus a size. It is not going to be critical although too small and you are limited with DOC/ feed. Too big and it's bloody heavy. My SG came with a foot mounted motor but that was changed to a flange mount. As the head moves up and down (and so the motor would too), I would guess at a flange mount.
Just checked my old thread - I fitted a 2880rpm 3/4HP motor, and also found this - Looking at a supplier web site the maximum speed for a 6" Norton wheel is 4140rpm, for a 7" 3600rpm
With hindsight, a 1HP (750W) motor would not have been a bad thing to fit. If you look at the back of the unit there may be some mysterious holes in a circular or square pattern which may help work out your motor size.

GEEZ mate you could have mentioned that last night, I would have bought them from you!!!!!! Postage would be a killer, and that would have saved freight.
Thanks everyone for the comments, I realise the speed of the motor and wheel relate to one another, but mainly looking for a starting point.
Talking with someone last night, they suggested that a multispline belt would be a good belt to use. I'm not planning on restoring this machine to exactly its former glory, just a nice overhaul and making it useable.

Hi Kryn, I forgot about the wheels. But ... I wasn't figuring on selling them. Quite possible they're too big for that machine I would imagine.

Hi Kryn, Guys,
That looks to be a very handy sized machine, Ideal for a hobby workshop.
Forgot to mention, if you are stuck for a 550 watt small frame motor, 4" diameter foot mount. Have a look in the scrap yard for a single ended shower pump !
I have one that I working with right now. The pump on mine is all brass as well. It got scrapped because the plumber didn't know how to replace the shaft seal to stop it leaking. An expensive repair for someone, all for a £2.65p seal.Best Regards:
Baron J.

I'm going to use the word unfortunately, but don't mean it because UK style pumped showers are the worst thing in the universe, but they aren't used over here.

Thanks for the pic Eric, now I've something to work from. Probably like a lot of machinery, when Noah played full back for Jeruselum,
made by one place and rebadged for another.

Kryn,
If I had a way of getting that Atlas grinder back to Adelaide I would be buying it. Pity you came back already.

Did you get a high pitch whining, screeching sound when you pulled into the drive way?
I seem to get that every time I come home with a toy.
